TEXTILES & TRADITIONS OF THE CENTRAL VALLEY

The costumes of the Central Valley in #Oaxaca are known for their bright, single-colored satin skirts and scarfs that are tucked in and wrapped with a #rebozo (a long flat garment usually folded or wrapped around the heard or upper body). Jewel adornments are particularly important to this ensemble, like rows of gold filigrana chains that hang low and are attached to their waist. Importantly, the woman from these region wear a pin on their left side that holds an image of a saint or a loved one. They also wear brightly colored ribbons in their braids that do not have to match the skirt and scarf, essentially color-blocking.
