TEXTILES & TRADITIONS OF THE MIXTEC REGION

The Mixtec Region features a colorful poplin skirt referred to as “wave of air” decorated with 3 colorful ribbons on the bottom, these represent the 3 separate regions within the mixteca. Their simple poplin blouses are decorated with with floral motif embroidery around the neckline, and a floral print scarf is worn on top of the blouse. The outfit is finished with a reboso (traditional scarf) tied around the waist. The color of this rebozo symbolizes the marital status of the woman wearing it.
